VERSATEX Trimboard News

May 21, 2010 - VERSATEX PVC Trimboards Recognized by NAHB Research Center As a Green Approved Product

VERSATEX Trim Products are Eligible for Points per the ICC-700 National Green Building Standard

Specifying VERSATEX trim as a low-maintenance alternative to wood has always had its advan tages. Now, contractors can also earn points toward building certification to the National Green Building Standard. VERSATEX PVC Trim can be found on the Green Approved Products list at the National Green Building Standard website--www.greenapprovedproducts.com/FindProducts.aspx

To achieve this certification, the VERSATEX product was reviewed by the Research Center after receiving appropriate third-party evidence that their products met the requirements listed on the site. VERSATEX products were then hyperlinked to the Green Scoring Tool site www.nahbgreen.org/ScoringTool.aspx, where builders and consumers can go to determine if a project using VERSATEX trim, or any other building materials listed, meets the specific practices of the ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard.

“We are committed to converting the company and the products we manufacture from ‘brown’ to ‘green’,” says John Pace, president and technical spokesperson for VERSATEX Trimboards. ”Versatex currently recycles 99% of all processed waste streams. We’re expanding our materials recycling program in the plant and office to include all water and soda bottles (Polyethylene Terephthalate - PET), stretch wrap film (Polyethylene), banding (Polyester), lumber tarps (polypropylene) and all metals (aluminum and steel). If we could find a home for the polyester tape from the corner fabrication area we would be near 100%.”

About the National Green Building Certification:

(Ref. www.greenapprovedproducts.com/GetListed.aspx)

With the ANSI-approval of the National Green Building Standard (ICC 700), green building is becoming more and more mainstream in our industry. However, consumers who are inundated with green claims in every facet of their lives are becoming more skeptical of those claims. Builders and designers are looking for products that truly contribute to making a home green, and supporting their marketing and certification-based claims

To help bridge the gap between manufacturers who make products eligible for National Green Building Certification points and builders/designers who want to use them, the NAHB Research Center http://www.nahbrc.com/ created the "NAHB Research Center Green Approved" product seal of approval program. This program requires manufacturers to provide appropriate third-party evidence that their products meet the criteria for recognition in buildings certified to the National Green Building Standard™ http://www.nahbgreen.org/Guidelines/ansistandard.aspx . “Green Approved” products carry a certificate from the NAHB Research Center that identifies the specific section(s) of the Standard where points for the product are available. This information will facilitate designers’ selection and/or specification of products to be used in green homes, and the approval of those points by accredited green building verifiers ttp://www.nahbgreen.org/Certification/findverifier.aspx .
