VERSATEX Tips and Tricks for the Builder When Bonding PVC to PVC
Apply the adhesive to only one part in the middle of the area to be bonded.
WHY? You want the adhesive to flow across the surface and “wet” both sides to get the best bond.
Use enough adhesive to allow some sqeeze-out when clamped or joined.
WHY? This makes sure that you have 100% adhesive coverage.
Clamp, weight, nail, tape, or screw the pieces in place.
WHY? To prevent movement before the adhesive sets or cures.
Don’t disturb the joint for at least 45 to 90 minutes after the “work life”.
WHY? The adhesive forms chemical and molecular bonds as it cures. If these are disturbed while forming, the bond will be weak!
Clean up any excess within a few minutes
WHY? The adhesive has begun the chemical reaction known as “curing” and will harden quickly and require sanding or sawing to remove.
For smaill repairs or bonds, squeeze a small amount of adhesive onto a clean scrap, mix with a plastic knife and apply.
WHY? You save the price of a mixer!
