VERSATEX AND THE ENVIRONMENT
VERSATEX has instituted several recycling and energy saving programs in the manufacturing operation that are good for the environment and the community and that can be considered “GREEN” company attributes. The net result is reduced landfill avoidance, resource conservation and a reduction in the overall carbon footprint of our company and the products we manufacture.
1) Recycling (annual savings):
a) 100% of all edge trim, dust, purge, die tear offs, and floor sweeps – Over 3 million pounds
b) 100% of all process water – 500,000 gallons
c) 100% of all corrugated and paper products – 25,000 pounds
d) 100% of all wood scrap converted into 475 cubic yards of mulch.
e) 100% of all waste oils – 550 gallons.
In total over 98% of all processed waste at Versatex is recycled.
2) VERSATEX modern manufacturing plant uses no natural gas for heating. All heat generated during the extrusion process is used to heat the manufacturing plant. Estimated natural gas savings – 25,000 CCF’s annually.
3) VERSATEX cellular PVC qualifies as a “Durable” product which conserves materials and eliminates pollution associated with the manufacturing of shorter life alternative products. It is also resists mold and mildew growth, fire, insects and moisture absorption.
4) VERSATEX requires less maintenance than other similar products. It does not require the use of paint, stain or harsh cleaners in order to maintain the physical performance characteristics of the product.
5) VERSATEX cellular PVC is lighter to transport than most other building products reducing the amount of fuel and other resources used for such transportation which in turn reduces fossil fuel use and Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
6) VERSATEX Cellular PVC saves the environment since it is a replacement for wood trim. Thus it helps prevent deforestation.
7) The VERSATEX plant is located on a brown field site (former LTV Steel Plant). Thus it uses reclaimed land.
8) VERSATEX cellular PVC has a 60% greater R-value than wood. Making it is more energy efficient than wood.
9) VERSATEX trim is recyclable either back to the manufacturer or through brokers.
10) VERSATEX has a long life cycle allowing us to warrant the product for 30 years transferrable to the second homeowner.
11) All sales literature is printed on FSC certified recycled paper stock and by an FSC certified printer.
