3.0 Description
3.1 General – VERSATEX trim boards, sheets, bead board, corner
boards and Stealth trim are rigid cellular PVC solid cross
sections intended for use as corner boards, window/door
surrounds, soffits, fascias, frieze boards, non-load bearing rake
boards, door and window trim, skirt boards, door pilasters,
column/post wraps and architectural millwork.
3.2 Materials and Processes - VERSATEX trim boards and
sheets are manufactured with expanded poly-vinyl-chloride
(cellular PVC) using an extrusion process. Finished products
exhibit a small cell micro structure and are produced with a
minimum density of 0.55 g/cm
3.3.3 Profiles – VERSATEX products are supplied in the following
profiles;
3.3.1. VERSATEX trim boards are supplied with either a smooth
surface or reversible textured ‘Timber Ridge’ finish. They are
available in nominal widths of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 16 inches,
nominal thicknesses of 5/8, 1, 1-1/4 and 1-1/2 inches and lengths
of 18 feet and 20 feet.
3.3.2. VERSATEX sheets are supplied in four foot widths and with
lengths up to twenty feet in thicknesses of 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4,
1 and 1-1/4 inches.
3.3.3. VERSATEX bead boards are supplied in widths of 3-1/2 and
5-1/2 inches and are 1/2 inch thick in 18 foot lengths.
3.3.4. VERSATEX corner boards are supplied in nominal 1-1/4 and
1-1/2 inches thickness and nominal 4, 6, 8 and 10 inches outside
corner sizes and in 10 feet, 12 feet, 20 feet, and 22 feet lengths.
4.0 Performance Characteristics
4.1 Materials used have a flame spread index of 20 when tested
in accordance with ASTM E 84.
4.2 Materials used are deemed equivalent to preservative treated
or naturally durable wood for resistance to weathering effects
and attack from termites.
4.3 Materials used are not affected by corrosion due to contact
with ACQ-D preservative-treated wood.
4.4 Soffit assemblies consisting of 1 inch x 12 inch boards
installed on framing spaced 16 inches on center have a maximum
allowable design load of 40 psf for negative (suction) wind
pressure when attached to SPF (G=0.42) wood framing or 55 psf
when attached to SYP (G=0.55) wood framing. Installation
consists of (2) 8d finish nails (2.5 inch long) installed in each
wood framing member spaced 16 inches on center.
5.0 Installation
Installation shall be in accordance with the manufacturer’s
installation instructions and this report. Where differences
occur between this report and the manufacturer’s installation
instructions, this report shall govern.
5.1 Fasteners shall be stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized
designed for wood trim and siding. Fasteners shall have blunt
points and full round heads. The fastener must be long enough to
penetrate the wood substrate a minimum of 1.5 inches.
5.2 Except as noted in 4.4 of this report, the trim boards and
sheets shall be installed over solid backing material, including
approved exterior sheathing or exterior wall coverings. VERSATEX
fascia must be installed over an approved structural sub fascia.
6.0 Supporting Evidence
6.1 Manufacturer’s drawings and installation instructions.
6.2 Reports of testing demonstrating compliance with ICC-ES
Acceptance Criteria for Rigid Cellular PVC Nonload-Bearing
Exterior Trim, AC27 effective January 1, 2005.
6.3 Quality control manual in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance
Criteria for Quality Documentation, AC10, effective March 1,
2009.
7.0 Conditions of Use
The VERSATEX trim applications identified in this report are
deemed to comply with the intent of the provisions of the
referenced building codes subject to the following conditions.
7.1 VERSATEX trim boards and sheets are limited to
nonload-bearing exterior use on Type V-B (5B) construction.
7.2 Compatibility of the supporting construction materials with
all fasteners, components, and other hardware components is
subject to approval by the code official.
7.3 Only those types of fasteners and fastening methods
described in this report have been evaluated for the installation
of the VERSATEX trim boards and sheets; other methods of
attachment are outside the scope of this report.
7.4 All products are manufactured in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania by
Wolfpac Technologies, Inc., in accordance with the manufacturer’s
approved quality control system with inspections by Architectural
Testing, Inc (AA-676).
8.0 Identification
VERSATEX trim boards that are produced in accordance with this report shall be identified with labeling on the individual skids that includes the following information:
8.1 Name and/or trademark of the manufacturer and the
manufacturers address.
8.2 The mark of the independent inspection agency, Architectural
Testing, Inc. (AA-676)
8.3 The Architectural Testing, Inc. Code Compliance Research
Report Number (CCRR-0149)
9.0 Code Compliance Research Report Use
9.1 Approval of building products and/or materials can only be
granted by a building official having legal authority in the specific
jurisdiction where approval is sought.
9.2 Code Compliance Research Reports shall not be used in any
manner that implies an endorsement of the product or
manufacturer by Architectural Testing, Inc.
9.3 Reference to the Architectural Testing internet web site
address at www.archtest.com is recommended to as certain the
current version and status of this report.
